Immigration terms often describe only one part of a permission. Single entry says how many entries are allowed, not how long a visitor may stay. Visa validity can describe the period in which permission may be used to enter, while duration of stay concerns time after entry. Sponsor can identify the party connected to the application without making that party the government authority that decides it.
The definitions here are deliberately practical. Each page explains the term, shows the nearby fact most likely to be confused with it, and gives a verification step. The wording is not a substitute for the definition or condition on an issued document.
Checks that prevent the common mistakes
- Copy the exact term from the service page or issued permission instead of relying on an agent's shortened label.
- Read surrounding dates and conditions to distinguish entry validity, stay duration and entry count.
- Identify whether the statement comes from GDRFA, ICP, an airline or another provider, because their roles differ.
- Ask the handler to clarify an ambiguous term in writing before payment or travel.
