Glossary

Duration of stay

Duration of stay is the time a traveller may remain under a particular permission, subject to the issued record. It is not the processing time or necessarily the period in which the visa can first be used.

Three clocks that are often mixed up

  • Processing time: the expected time to decide or complete a service.
  • Entry validity: the period in which issued permission can be used to enter.
  • Duration of stay: the period allowed after entry or within the stated window.

Multiple-entry products

A multiple-entry label does not explain the full day-counting rule. Check whether the limit applies per visit, across a validity window, or across a year. The five-year tourist service, for example, states an annual stay limit and extension conditions that must be read as part of that specific product.

Planning safely

Record actual entry and exit movements and keep a margin before the authorised end. If the official date is unclear or may already have passed, contact GDRFA or ICP instead of relying on a spreadsheet.
