Do I need a visa for Dubai?
It depends on the passport you will travel with, any qualifying residence or visa you hold, your purpose and length of stay, and how you enter the UAE. GCC citizens do not need a visa; some other travellers receive permission on arrival, while others must arrange it before travelling.
This page does not cover: work or residence permission, diplomatic/service passports, refugee travel documents or unusual immigration histories.
The four questions that determine your route
“Dubai visa” is common search language, but you are entering the United Arab Emirates. There is no single answer that applies to every traveller.
- Which passport or travel document will you present at the border? Citizenship, residence and departure country are different facts.
- Are you a GCC citizen, a GCC resident, or the holder of another country’s visa/residence document that may create a conditional exception?
- Is the trip for tourism, transit, visiting, work, study, medical treatment or residence? Permission for one purpose does not automatically cover another.
- Will permission be issued or handled through Dubai/GDRFA, ICP, an airline, hotel or licensed travel agent? The channel controls the final instructions.
Three broad outcomes

A residence card is not the same as a passport. A rule written for “British citizens” should not be applied merely because someone lives in the UK.
How to check safely
- Use the UAE Government eligibility information to identify the likely category.
- Check the authority or carrier that will handle the trip. Dubai applications/status commonly route through GDRFA; federal and other-emirate matters commonly route through ICP.
- Read the page for your exact service, including conditions and extra charges.
- Re-check shortly before travel. Save a dated copy or screenshot for your own reference, but treat the live official page as controlling.
When not to rely on a web guide
- Your passport is damaged, nearly expired, lost/stolen or an emergency document.
- You previously overstayed, were refused entry, had a visa cancelled or have an unresolved UAE matter.
- You plan to work, study or establish residence.
- Your itinerary, sponsor or nationality creates conditions that official pages do not answer clearly.
- Two official sources appear to conflict. Ask the authority or provider handling the application before paying.
