Dubai transit visa: 48-hour and 96-hour routes
The UAE Government describes 48-hour and 96-hour transit visas sponsored by UAE-based airlines and processed before entry. Whether you need one also depends on whether you pass immigration and whether your passport has another entry route.
This page does not cover: assuming every layover requires entry permission or that every airline offers the same service.
Airside connection or UAE entry?
Changing planes without passing border control is different from leaving the airport, collecting/rechecking bags through immigration, changing airports or using a hotel landside. Confirm the baggage and terminal arrangement with the operating airline.

Transit checklist
- Confirm whether you will cross UAE immigration.
- Check whether your passport already has a visa-free/on-arrival route.
- If a transit visa is needed, contact the UAE-based airline early and identify the 48- or 96-hour option.
- Verify passport validity, onward ticket, timing and any accommodation requirement.
- Do not leave for the airport until required advance permission has been approved.
