The common tourist position

The Government of Canada destination page checked on 11 September 2026 lists a tourist visa as required on arrival. It describes that visa as free and valid for 90 days within a 180-day period. The 90 days start from the first entry date, whether the stay is continuous or split.

UAE authorities decide admission. An airline can also refuse boarding when the travel document does not meet the current rule. Recheck the Canadian advisory and the UAE eligibility page shortly before departure, even after earlier visits.

This page follows the Canadian passport presented at the UAE border. A Canada resident who travels on another passport must use the rule for that passport instead.

Validity and the 90-day window

The Canadian advisory says the passport must be valid for six months beyond the date of entry. Treat that as a minimum check, not a reason to travel with a damaged or doubtful booklet.

Count previous UAE stays inside the relevant 180-day period. The destination page says the 90 days start from first entry and can be used continuously or in separate visits. The stamp or digital record issued at the border is the figure that matters, not a planning calculator.

Work and relocation are separate

Visitor permission does not authorise employment or study. A person moving for a UAE job should have the employer identify the work permit and residence process before starting work.

Family, remote-work, retirement and other residence categories have their own evidence. Do not treat a successful tourist arrival as the start of a job or a tenancy you cannot unwind.

A final check before flying

  1. Open the current Government of Canada UAE page and the official UAE eligibility checker.
  2. Confirm the passport is regular, undamaged and valid for at least six months after the planned entry date.
  3. Count UAE days already used in the relevant 180-day window.
  4. Ask the operating airline whether it applies any extra document rule for the itinerary.
  5. If the trip will include work, study or residence, stop using this visitor page and verify that route instead.
  6. After entry, read the immigration record and use those dates for every later calculation.
