Dubai transit visa vs tourist visa
A transit route is designed around a short onward journey; a tourist route is designed around a visit. The right choice depends on immigration, time, itinerary and provider eligibility.
This page does not cover: airside connections where the passenger never passes immigration, or a personalised ruling on boarding.

Start with immigration, not layover length
A passenger remaining airside may not need the same permission as someone collecting bags, changing airports or entering Dubai. Airlines decide whether baggage is through-checked and whether the passenger can board each segment.
If entry is planned, confirm the route before departure. Calling a holiday a ‘stopover’ does not itself create transit eligibility.

- Will I pass UAE immigration during this itinerary?
- Are both sectors on tickets/bookings eligible for your transit service?
- Who applies and how early must the file be submitted?
- What happens after a missed or changed connection?
- Which documents and fees apply to this itinerary?
When tourist permission may fit better
If the purpose is a longer Dubai visit, the onward schedule exceeds the transit category, or the airline cannot sponsor the transit route, investigate the appropriate tourist option. That is a new eligibility check, not an automatic upgrade.
